About Rent-to-Own
Solar Systems
Rent-to-own solar systems in South Africa allow users to pay a monthly fee for the use of the solar system without purchasing it outright. After a specified period once all payments have been made, ownership transfers to the user.
Rent-to-own makes solar more affordable by reducing the large upfront costs typically associated with solar. Savings generated from the solar system can then be put towards the rental thereby making a further contribution to affordability.
Periods can range from as little as 12 months, to as much as 72 months, depending on client needs.
Solar systems require significantly less maintenance than diesel generators as there are essentially no moving parts. An annual inspection is included in the rent-to-own agreement while any additional services are charged for on a pre-agreed basis.
The system can be upgraded during the term, however this is likely to require an update to the payment amount or payment term to cater for the upgraded system.
Once the final instalment of the rent-to-own contract is paid, ownership of the solar system passes to the user unless another contract is entered into.
